Launch of Connexions Action Card II

Connexions Action Card II

Late last year Youth Media were commissioned by Connexions with the project to inform 13 to 19 year olds of transport, care and support services available in the area.

The Product: A cutting-edge 3D mini-world where users can interactively gather information in an enjoyable way. A landmark for Youth Media in terms of software development.

With Connexions Actioncard II, users are able to select a personality that relates best to them from a choice of 6 characters, designed by a group of Young People, in order to explore the 3D Virtual Halton environment. They can scope the landscape on foot, scooter or skateboard and can even bring along a virtual pet to accompany them.

Connexions Actioncard II offers the user the ability to explore inside numerous buildings within the street, all offering specialist information on subjects from bus timetables to college information, all valid in the Halton area. All this is available for the first time in full 3D, offering a much more comfortable and convenient experience for the user.

Using Connexions Actioncard II users can conveniently print information that they find and want to keep. This way, if the user wants to access the information again they dont have to run through the entire program again.

Using sounds, music and buildings suggested and co-designed by Young People, Connexions Actioncard II is able to relate to what Young People, not Professionals, would hear or see on the street. Young People were also involved in the research of different contemporary youth groups, such as footballers, hunks and goths upon which the controllable characters in Connexions Actioncard II are based. Using this research gathered from Young People, Youth Media were able to develop an even friendlier and more familiar atmosphere within Connexions Actioncard II, allowing the user to express themselves more freely in a virtual society without the intimidation of other people.

Connexions Actioncard II is due for launch in January 2007 and will be available in both CD-ROM and web-based versions, just part of Youth Media’s ongoing pledge to streamline accessibility to information, which is invaluable for Young People.
